Battery is an electro-chemical device. A battery works by converting the chemical energy into electrical energy. Batteries are commonly used as electrical energy sources.
A battery has two electrodes. One of them is a negative electrode known as anode and another is positive electrode known as cathode. The anode holds an active material that can be oxidized. The cathode contains or consumes an active material that can be reduced. The anode active material is capable of reducing the cathode active material.
While using battery as an electrical energy source in a device, the electrical contact to the anode and the cathode allows electron to flow through the device. This permits and respective oxidation and reduces reactions to occur to provide electrical power.
